About the Candle Maker

About Me (as a Candle Maker)

Jenn Hanson is the candle maker behind HansonMade Candles. Everything you see here (from the candles themselves, labels, website, blog) was created by Jenn. How did we get here, though?

I basically became a chandler by accident. I’ve loved candles for many years, but I became frustrated with the quality of the mass produced ones (you know which company I'm talking about without even writing the name). I needed a hobby, so I challenged myself to make something better than what the large retailers were selling. In 2017, I started making soy candles in my kitchen and discovered my hidden talent. My friends, family, and coworkers were impressed with what I had made and encouraged me to keep going.

Once I honed my process, I began selling my candles online and in markets around Phoenix. In the 2018-2019 season, I was a vendor in more than two dozen in-person markets! As a result, local boutiques and Idol Hands Healing started carrying my candles. I was also featured in Voyage Phoenix. As my presence grew, I received more requests for wholesale and custom orders. What had started as a fun hobby evolved into my passion project.

Now, I primarily sell my candles online and locally through my social media accounts (linked at the bottom of the webpage).

A little more about me (generally)

I have a very supportive, generous husband who has been helping me at all of my markets since the very first candle in our kitchen. He helps with the heavy stuff (literally) and sits with me all day as I make sales. I'm so grateful to have a partner who goes along with and actively encourages my antics! There is no way I ever could have come this far without his help.

I am proud to announce that in August of 2023, I became a mom! We were so excited for our "rainbow baby." When our son was born, I took a long break from candles and my full-time job to be with him, and I am so grateful I was able to be present for his major "firsts." He's very much a toddlin' toddler now.

I was also diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in late 2024. That surgery was the hardest thing I've ever experienced, but they got it all, and I got to avoid chemotherapy and radiation. I consider myself very lucky! Early detection really does save lives. I hope to one day make candles to support breast cancer survivors and organizations.
